The children of Isham Varnado and Margaret Hope.

This information was taken from the Volume 5, Number 1 (Spring 1984) issue of the Varnado Genealogist. It lists all of their children and contains information about this familie's involvement in the Civil War.

Isham Ellis Varnado was the son of Leonard Varnado and Rachel Shilling and a grandson of Samuel Varnado, Sr. He was born April 30, 1814 near where Osyka is now located and died March 30, 1883 at the age of 68 years and 11 months. He is buried in the Varnado cemetery near the old home place.

On February 28, 1834, he married Margaret (Peggy) Hope, the daughter of James Hope, Sr. and Isabella (Abbie) Smith. Isabella Smith was born August 15, 1815 near Mt. Zion Church near Osyka. She died September 1, 1891 at the age of 76 years and 27 days and is buried in the Varnado cemetery near Osyka.

Children of Isham Varnado and Margaret Hope:

William Leander Born April 18, 1835, died May 3, 1917. He married 1)Esther Edwards, 2) Emily Brooks. He was a Confederate soldier and was wound in the Civil War. He is buried in Osyka Cemetery.

James Leonard Born January 7, 1837, died August 12, 1864. He married Nancy C Sandifer and died at Marietta, Georgia, from a hip wound during the Civil War. He died at age 27 years, 7 months and 5 days and is buried at Rosehill Cemetery, Macon, Georgia.

Felix Hampton Born September 5, 1838, died November 22, 1888. He was assassinated in front of his drug store in Osyka at 7:30PM. He married Celia Day, was wounded in the Civil War and is buried in the German Cemetery, Osyka.

Talitha Angeline Born October 3, 1840, died April 24, 1897. She married Christopher Columbus Felder who served as Corporal, Co B, 33 Miss Inf. They lived in Louisiana near Osyka and are buried in the Varnado cemetery near Osyka.

Ellis Monroe Born February 1, 1843, died October 4, 1917. He married 1)Emma Cook, 2) Annie Benham Harrell. He was a Confederate soldier and a drummer boy in the Army of the Tennessee. He is buried in Osyka Cemetery.

Raleigh Haggard Born November 2, 1845, died March 29, 1863, at Synder's Bluff near Vicksburg while in the Confederate army. He died at age 18 years and 4 months. His place of burial is not known.

Pinkney Henderson Born August 5, 1847, died December 21, 1927. He married Alice Hodges. He was a Confederate soldier and is buried in Osyka Cemetery.

Agnes Ophelia Born March 4, 1849, died June 19, 1935. She married Edward Wesley Cutrer and is buried in the Varnado Cemetery near Osyka.

John Seaborn Born June 6, 1851, died 1936. He married Frances Simmons and is buried in the Osyka Cemetery.

Parham Boyd Born November 25, 1852, died 1937. He married 1) Martha Simmons, 2) Emma Williams. He died at the old home and is buried in the Osyka Cemetery.

Hugh Hope Born November 29, 1854, died February 2, 1884. He married Barbara Sipple. He was a telegraph operator and died in a fall from a train two miles south of Brookhaven, Miss. He is buried in the German cemetery in Osyka.

Ada Quintella Born November 28, 1856, died 1938. She married Marshall Grubb of Virginia, born 1850 and died 1932 in Osyka. She is buried in the Osyka Cemetery.
