Preston Bond was born in Georgia and apparently moved to Mississippi Territory with his parents sometime before 1812. The parents and most or all of their married children left Georgia and settled in Pike County, Mississippi. Willis and Lydia Mullins entered land in Pike County but left no descendants in the area. Apparently the children of Thomas Bond later moved on to Texas and it is possible that the Willis Mullins family did as well. Preston Bond stayed in Pike County where he raised nine children, several of whom married into the Simmons clan. The youngest daughter married a man name Dan Strickland. This man is not related to the Strickland families who emigrated from Georgia and in fact arrived in Mississippi in 1798 by ship (from the website “Strickland Immigrants”). Solomon Strickland, born 1776 in Georgia, married Sarah Roberts. Solomon was a son of David Strickland, born 1735 in North Carolina, who married Elizabeth Hunt. Their son, James, born 1801 in Georgia and died 1839 in Louisiana, married Nancy Wilson. Their son, Elisha H J Strickland, born 1830 in Alabama and died in Arkansas in 1863 while in the Confederate Army, married Susan Catherine Graves in Talledega, Alabama, in 1851.

This information is taken from the Bracewell website. The youngest sons, William and Sampson Strickland, may be the same persons as sons #1 and #2 or they may have been their namesakes. The practice of naming younger children after older, now dead, siblings was not unknown. After ten or twelve children it is possible that the parents simply ran out of favorite names and had to repeat. On the other hand, these websites (and any genealogical work) contain errors that researchers spend years trying to correct. The really amazing thing is that it is possible for a patient researcher to little-by-little reconstruct the history of these families.
